  1. A mass in physics, is the quantity of matter 
  2. in a body as measured by its inertia. Mass 
  3. determines the acceleration produced in a 
  4. body by a given force acting on it, the 
  5. acceleration being inversely proportional to 
  6. the mass of the body. The mass also 
  7. determines the force exerted on a body by 
  8. gravity on Earth, although this attraction 
  9. varies slightly from place to place.
